The African Schoolroom can organise a range of activities to suit your interests, budget and timeframe. Most tours mix a number of activity types, ensuring a memorable and meaningful visit to South Africa. You can also view our Sample Itinerary.

Service Projects

  • Work at a township school  or orphanage – interact with children (reading programmes, sport, ball skills, games), paint classrooms, murals on walls, prepare and plant vegetable gardens, build playground equipment etc

  • Depending on time and budget, build a classroom, dormitory, kitchen, library, community centre, house for a destitute family etc

Community and Culture

  • Tour of Soweto (visit Mandela’s house, Hector Pieterson memorial etc)

  • Apartheid Museum, Johannesburg

  • Constitution Hill, Johannesburg

  •  Bicycle tours of Soweto and Zwelisha townships

Wilderness Experiences

Educational camps, training courses and walking safaris take place in Big Five reserves in pristine wilderness areas, led by highly trained guides and rangers.
